Known as a great way to beat the heat in the summertime (or enjoy something sweet anytime), Hawaiian shave ice is a dessert you can get in the Jacksonville area, but it’s not yet so readily available in North Jacksonville. And, in the coming months, a new food truck plans to change that.

Founded by Marie Hinkle, Aloha Jax Shave Ice is currently in the permitting stages with plans to hit the streets this spring. What Now spoke with Hinkle on Wednesday about the upcoming food truck.

“We’re going to have all the major flavors; it’s about 33 main ones,” Hinkle said. “We’re going to open in North Jacksonville. We don’t necessarily want to compete with some of the other shave ice places—we love all the ones around us.”

Specifically, a planned food truck court on Heckscher Drive is Aloha Jax’s future home, says Hinkle. Accordingly, plan review documents filed by the food truck give the address, 9429 Heckscher Dr.

The idea for Aloha Jax came out of Hinkle’s family’s travels in Hawaii, Hinkle said.

“We’ve traveled in Hawaii a few times, and we love their shaved ice. We have it every day when we’re there. And we said, We need something like this where we are.”

Soon, North Jacksonville will indeed have it!

“We’re excited to get open,” said Hinkle. “Hopefully people come out on a hot day, right off the beach.”
