Founded in Kona, Hawaii in 1989, growing cafe chain Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has been growing throughout the United States in recent years, and this month, it made its debut in Northeast Florida. As of December 4, Bad Ass Coffee is open at 4085 A1A S in St. Augustine Beach.
There, you can check out Bad Ass Coffee’s food offerings, coffee, and other beverage choices. Its menu features a wide variety of coffee drinks like the brand’s Bad Ass Lattes, which include the Bad Ass Mocha, the Caramel Wave, and the Beach Bliss Latte, all served either hot or iced. On the food side are selections of breakfast and lunch sandwiches and baked goods.
“We’re committed to sharing the warm hospitality of the Aloha Spirit with a store atmosphere that allows customers to relax, enjoy themselves and fuel their inner Bad Ass,” says the Bad Ass Coffee website. It also explains the origin of the name:
“For generations, the donkeys of Kona, Hawaii could be heard bellowing as they carried precious loads of coffee beans down the steep mountains of the Big Island. The native people of Kona named these hard-working donkeys the ‘Bad Ass Ones’ because of their reliably strong, but stubborn nature in carrying their precious cargo. The legend of those hard-working donkeys lives on today at Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii where we’re stubborn about our sourcing, roasting and serving quality Hawaiian coffee and doing so with the Aloha Spirit.”
Meanwhile, Bad Ass Coffee’s plans for Northeast Florida do not end in St. Augustine. Allen Stanczak, the franchisee behind the location, will open two more locations in the area. What Now contacted Stanczak on Monday; Stanczak declined to comment on the opening and plans for future sites. We do know, however, that the franchisees territory spans from Jacksonville Beach to Crescent Beach.
