Bartaco is getting ready to open a new location in Florida, this time coming to Jacksonville’s Five Points neighborhood at 1534 Oak Street.

The company has leased ±5,000 square feet of retail space in one of the most distinctive buildings, with an additional 3,017 square feet of rooftop terrace, according to leasing details received by What Now Media Group. The Mexican concept will move into the former home of Black Sheep Restaurant, which closed last May after 11 years. Now, CEO and co-founder Scott Lawton will open bartaco in the three-story triangular-shaped building later this year.

“Bartaco is inspired by the beach culture of Brazil, Uruguay, and Southern California,” according to the company’s website. “We are upscale street food with a coastal vibe in a relaxed environment. We are freshly-squeezed juices, specialty cocktails and beer out of a bottle. Bartaco evokes a visit to a stylish beach resort and creates an unforgettable experience.”

The American restaurant chain company focusing on upscale street-style food was founded in 2010 by Andy Pforzheimer and Sasa Mahr-Batuz in Port Chester, New York, and currently operates in 22 locations in 12 states, mainly along the East Coast of the US. In 2018, it was announced that Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group acquired Barteca Restaurant Group, which includes Barcelona Wine Bar and bartaco, for $325 million. The following year, the concept was acquired when private equity firm L Catterton purchased Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group for $650 million.
