BB.Q Chicken, the popular Seoul-based Korean chicken restaurant, is getting ready to expand to Gainesville, located at 201 SE 2nd Avenue #101.

The company’s newest location will move into the former home of Celebrity’s Soul Food of Gainesville after it served the community for over five years. BB.Q Chicken will be owned and operated by Walker Hospitality, which franchises several different restaurants throughout Florida, including Gourmet Deli, Nona Grill, Taste of Asia, and more. Owner David Moon tells What Now Jacksonville that the new location is still a few months away from opening but couldn’t give an exact opening date.

This will be BB.Q Chicken’s first location in this area, with the company only having two locations in the state in Tampa and East Colonial. Founder Yoon Hong-guen opened the restaurant in South Korea in 1995 to sell his delicious Korean fried chicken. The restaurant’s name stands for “Best for the Best Quality,” which is one of the reasons why the company has expanded to over 3,500 locations in 57 countries.

“Hong-guen founded BB.Q chicken in Seoul, South Korea, with one simple mission: serve great-tasting, high-quality Korean fried chicken to the world,” according to the company’s website. ” It’s safe to say that mission succeeded, as bb.q now operates in thousands of stores across the globe. Our secret is simple: We’re passionate about chicken, and we’re passionate about Korea. We established Chicken University in Seoul to keep us on the cutting edge of quality and flavor, and all our stores—whether it’s in Korea or Kansas—champion Korean culture with authentic recipes, exciting flavors, and superior customer service.”
