A new barbecue restaurant is preparing to open on Soutel Drive in Jacksonville, taking over the space previously occupied by Mr. K Bar-B-Que & Seafood. Paperwork submitted by Ortega International Consulting Inc shows Big Jakes BBQ opening at 4906 Soutel Dr.
Details on the new restaurant are still coming to light. According to coverage by Hoodline, Big Jakes will feature “a drive-thru setup and pit-cooked comfort food,” where “the fast-casual counter is set to lean hard into quick takeout, with a tight lineup of smoked meats and homestyle sides.”
An opening is planned for May 1.
The news is also described as a bit of a comeback, with owner Robert Rukab saying that he previously operated “as many as seven Big Jake’s locations before shifting into real estate in 2014.”
What Now reached out to Rukab on Monday to ask about plans for the opening on Soutel Drive. Rukab was not immediately available for comment.
