Jacksonville Beach’s long-beloved oceanfront seafood spot Joe’s Crab Shack is preparing to undergo a transition. Owned by Landry’s, Inc., Joe’s Crab Shack will close for renovations, transitioning into another Landry’s brand, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., says coverage by First Coast News.
“For years, Joe’s has been more than just a place to eat; it’s been a staple of the beachfront community,” the coverage says.
The brand replacing it is an iconic part of American pop culture, which most will recognize from the classic film Forrest Gump.
“Capturing the magic that made ‘Forrest Gump’ an American classic, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. serves scratch-made, southern-style comfort dishes plucked straight off the silver screen – we’re talking sautéed shrimp, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp scampi…(shall we go on?), alongside award-winning baby back ribs, burgers, salads and more in a fun and energetic atmosphere,” says the brand’s website.
Founded in in 1996 in California, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has grown to include restaurants in eight states, along with 10 international outposts. It has five restaurants in Florida alone, making this one, opening at 6 Beach Blvd, its sixth.
According to First Coast News, dates for the closing of Joe’s Crab Shack and the reopening as Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. have yet to be set. Joe’s Crab Shack employees will be placed at other Landry’s restaurants during the transition.
