The popular Gainesville-based Mexican restaurant El Indio is preparing to open a new location in Jonesville at 401 NW 143rd St.

The company’s third location will move behind the Publix-anchored shopping center at the corner of 2nd Lane and 143 Street. Co-owner Alvaro Ospina and his wife, Diana, have opened locations on 13th Street and 34th Boulevard. Now, owners tell What Now Jacksonville they are in the design phase of opening a new location. The exact opening date is unknown, but it will have dine-in service and potentially a drive-thru, like its other locations.

The Ospinas opened the restaurant in 1992 in the heart of Gainesville and now expands west to reach more customers. One way the restaurant plans to win customers is with its delicious, freshly-made Mexican meals, made in-house daily. All salsas and meats are made fresh daily, and the company never uses canned chicken or beef. El Indio also has vegetarian and vegan options and plenty of Mexican classics. On top of serving the community through its brick-and-mortar or drive-thru, El Indio also offers catering for any social event.

“El Indio was designed to make you feel like you’ve taken a trip to Mexico without setting foot outside of the community,” according to the company’s website. “We use only fresh ingredients to ensure the quality of our food. Our bold flavors are also provided at a very affordable price. Guests can always expect excellent and fast customer service. Our meals are accessible to every type of food enthusiast, such as vegetarian, vegan, meat, and fish lovers alike!”
