“A bakery would replace a former market and coffee shop in Downtown Jacksonville under a proposal on its way to the Downtown Investment Authority board,” reported the Jacksonville Daily Record this week. The bakery in question is From Butter With Love, the sourdough bakery that made a name for itself operating out of the Mossfire Grill until Mossfire closed. Now, it’s working to open a home of its own at 223 N Hogan St.
“We’ll opening up our artisanal bakery right across from City Hall,” John Ogle, who runs the bakery in partnership with Leah Ogle, told What Now on Thursday. “Depending on the buildout going smoothly, we hope to be open this summer.”
From Butter With Love got its start under a different name, Briecake Mood, the Ogles’ cheesecake brand, operating out of a commissary kitchen and selling cheesecake at farmers markets like the Murray Hill Farmers Market. Spinning off from Briecake into its sourdough bakery form, From Butter With Love got its name, going on to make its home at Mossfire Grill.
“After they closed, we had to figure out our next step,” Ogle said. “We’re really excited about Downtown, so we were just looking for the right fit for a location.”
Opening in the Hogan Street site, From Butter With Love will offer sourdough breads, bagels, croissants, and focaccias (and eventually sandwiches) on a grab-and-go, packaged basis.
As it happens, this story first broke back in January, when From Butter with love published an Instagram post announcing that it would be “Coming Soon To Downtown Jacksonville.”
“Thank you for sticking with us through this season of change – your support means everything!” the post said. “We’re excited to say, we’ll be putting down roots in downtown Jacksonville soon. We can’t wait to keep you updated as we make this next step happen!”
