Founded in Santa Barbara, California thirty years ago, Habit Burger & Grill is beginning to make its mark on the East Coast, too. The burger chain launched its first Jacksonville location at 13559 Beach Blvd in October, and already, this week, it has launched a second. Habit Burger & Grill opened on Wednesday at 9171 Baymeadows Road.
“We are home to an award-winning Double Char Burger, and we’ve beaten In-N-Out,” Kim Higgins, marketing manager at Habit, told What Now on Friday.
Habit Burger and In-N-Out, both from California, are natural rivals, and Habit has beaten in In-N-Out to the #1 spot on USA Today’s Best Fast Food Burger list two years in a row.
“We are thrilled to be opening in Jacksonville. So far, there’s a been a lot of outreach, working with local schools. That’s Habit’s focus.”
Now, the award-winning burger chain with the famous Double Char Burger and sides like the smash-hit Tempura Green Beans is preparing to open its third location in the area. This time, it’s headed to 15022 Max Leggett Parkway, where an opening is planned for Q3 2026.
“We’ve been welcomed in the community really well,” Higgins said. “We invite people to come try us out! It’s something new and different. Our burgers are cooked to order over an open flame, where high heat sears the beef and locks in those juices, creating a bold, smoky flavor you can’t fake.”

- Charburger or Double Char with cheese: Chargrilled beef patty or patties topped with caramelized onions, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, pickles, mayo and cheese on a toasted bun
- Portabella Char: Chargrilled beef patty, Portabella mushrooms, caramelized onions, melted white American cheese, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, pickle, and roasted garlic aioli on a toasted bun
- BBQ Bacon Char with Cheese: Chargrilled beef patty, hickory-smoked bacon, caramelized onions, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, mayo, and cheese on a toasted bun
- Teriyaki Char with Cheese: Chargrilled beef patty, grilled pineapple, teriyaki sauce, caramelized onions, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, pickle, mayo, and cheese on a toasted bun
- Ahi Tuna Filet: Line-caught, sushi-grade tuna steak with a teriyaki glaze, crisp shredded lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and tartar sauce
