Chick-fil-A continues to refresh and remodel its locations throughout the country, this time with a franchise owner preparing to make some changes at the Jacksonville site at 9980 Southside Blvd.

Restaurant operator Joel Parker, who owns the location at The Shoppes at Southside and the site within the Avenues Mall, recently submitted a plan review application for the standalone site outside of the shopping center, across from the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park. Parker tells What Now Jacksonville that while this is only an interior remodel rather than a full demolition and rebuild, it’s not expected to happen until sometime next year, as plans are still being finalized.

While the exact details regarding the remodel are unknown, it’s safe to say it will bring a fresh new look to a very popular location. The typical lifespan of a freestanding Chick-fil-A restaurant is about 30 years, according to the company’s website, and within that timeframe, each restaurant usually receives at least one full-scale renovation, requiring an overhaul inside and out. The company prioritizes restaurant remodels based on capacity and age. Considering this is an interior remodel, customers can expect updates to the facility, such as new counters, awnings, and furniture.

“For example, to address capacity issues, a restaurant may undergo remodeling to transform its kitchen with an enhanced design, allowing half the kitchen staff to respond to drive-thru orders and the other half to serve in-restaurant customers,” according to the company’s website. “If a restaurant is undergoing construction to add a second drive-thru lane, canopies, heaters, misters, and lights may be added so Team Members can work outside comfortably. During the hiatus, many Team Members may receive temporary positions at other Chick-fil-A locations, while others may receive holdover money from the restaurant Operator.”
