According to recent reporting, a local restaurateur is seeking to flip a classic concept as the original ends its run.
“After three lively years of margaritas, music and modern Latin cuisine, Iguana on Park has served its final taco,” the report states, citing financial pressure as the main motivation for closure.
However, owner Al Mansur, whose 3638 Park Street LLC owns the building the restaurant inhabited, sees an opportunity in the wake of this closure.
“The cost of doing business is just unsustainable,” he told the Business Journal. “But we’re exploring what’s next.”
As the report explores, the address is a special spot given its 7,614-square-foot facility and seating for around 150 people with an extra 80 on the outdoor patio, along with the area-rare 30 parking spaces.
“People need to support their local restaurants because it’s been getting very difficult for my industry colleagues,” Mansur said. “The cost of labor, the cost of goods and the cost of services have all gone up.”
Despite Mansur’s frustrations, he sees the potential for new beginnings.
“Restaurants have been really squeezed in this market, so it was with a heavy heart that we decided to close,” Mansur said. “But we may bring a new concept into the space that would work better with more efficient operating costs.”
