A brand new company called Mechanism Coffee Roasters is getting ready to make its debut later this year in Deerwood, located at 11526 Lake Mead Ave #103.

The company recently submitted plan reviews to Jacksonville to open a new cafe/ coffee roaster in a vacant space between Gate Parkway KinderCare and Great Harvest Bread. Co-founder Michael Bigney tells What Now Jacksonville that the new coffee shop is expected to open in late July/ early August 2023. This will be Bigney’s second roasting company, following Crown Street Coffee Roasters in Jamestown, New York. He says Mechanism Coffee will be similar in terms of systems and training, but this coffee roaster will offer something new.

Like Crown Street, Mechanism Coffee will focus on single-origin coffee. Bigney says the new venture will be similar to what they did up north, but they will implement some changes that they’ve learned since opening their first company in 2017. Owners are still in the midst of renovations, recently putting on the window vinyl at the beginning of this month. A lease was signed at the end of March. Mechanism Coffee will move into the former home of FreshJax, which relocated to 9000 Cypress Green Dr.

Crown Street still operates in the heart of downtown Jamestown, offering pour-over coffee, a full espresso bar, bagel sandwiches, salads, and soup. The cafe’s featured menu includes drip coffee, bacon egg & cheese bagel, latte, avocado toast, chocolate chip cookies, and pistachio muffins. The new Mechanism Coffee will offer different coffee and menu items than its predecessor, according to Bigney. He says he hopes to expand to more locations after establishing this site.
