As of Jan. 3, 2023, a permit has officially been approved for Southern Grounds to start construction at the new development The Hub Brooklyn in Jacksonville.

The shell buildings at The Hub Brooklyn, located at 400 Riverside Ave., will eventually be filled by a variety of restaurants, bars, coffee shops like Southern Grounds and design loft spaces.

According to concept art, the development plans on emphasizing a large outdoor courtyard space and modern seating areas for guests to enjoy.

Southern Grounds & Co. owner Mark Janasik is behind the new 0.21-acre location worth $285,000.

The restaurant will be “fast-casual, with food from local farms with ‘globally inspired cuisine,” according to the Jacksonville Daily Record. Janasik also told the Record that he plans on implementing a “prohibition kitchen” serving coffee and cocktails in the bar space.

The development sits directly across the street from the Fidelity National Information Services Inc. headquarters, which is sure to attract employees during the lunch rush.

Janasik did not immediately respond to What Now Jacksonville for comment.

Though there is no confirmed grand opening date, the space is likely to open later this year or early 2024 following construction.
