A brand new cafe, Screaming Cat Ice Cream & Coffee, is getting ready to debut in Riverside, located at 2700 Park St.

This is the latest development from Isaac and Elenis Camargo, the co-founders of Thirdstone Properties, a single-family rental investment and management company with an office within the historic Whiteway Corner, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal. The duo plans to open a new concept in the same building in mid-to-late Summer 2024. Customers can expect 24 flavors of ice cream and beans sourced from Jacksonville-based Pura Coffee roasters.

The Camargos expect a quick turnaround to open the new sweet shop/ cafe, following the go-ahead from Jacksonville in about six to eight weeks and not needing to install any kitchen or in-depth equipment. The space will feature the original 1940s flooring and a high, tin-square ceiling. The business owner expects to spend almost $80,000 on construction costs to build an ADA-compliant public restroom, update plumbing and electrical work, and add storage.

The corner will be a perfect spot for the new business, especially considering how many other restaurants are nearby. Other restaurants in the area include Primi Piatti, Cool Mobse Cafe, Pie95 Pizza, Lola’s Burrito & Burger Joint, and Pattaya Thai Grille. Whether or not customers are coming in for a dessert following dinner or a cup of coffee in the morning, Screaming Cat Ice Cream & Coffee will serve the Riverside area in more ways than one.

“We felt like this would be a great addition,” Isaac tells the Business Journal. “It’s a happy business. Who doesn’t want ice cream? And we live here, so we want to help the community continue to grow.”
