Tavola Trattoria, serving Italian favorites, is planned for Jacksonville’s Southbank.

The restaurant’s owners, Carl and Lindie Garrett, received a $135,000 grant by the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) to renovate the 4,500 square-foot building at 1027 Hendricks Avenue in order to transform it into the trattoria.

According to the August 20 DIA meeting, the grant was approved to, “increase and diversify the number and type of retail, food and beverage, and entertainment establishments within Downtown”, and to, “increase the vibrancy of Downtown for residents and visitors through arts, culture, history, sports, theater, events, parks and attractions”.

No opening date has been set, but applications have been filed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Currently, the restaurant is seeking an executive chef of chef de cuisine. According to a listing on Glassdoor, Tavola is seeking,” a Culinary Leader who brings not only technical excellence, but also a collaborative spirit and a deep love for the craft”, adding, “at our upscale Italian restaurant, we don’t just cook food—we create meaningful moments around the table”.

Carl Garrett is a seasoned restaurateur. As the owner of Table Mesa Restaurant Group, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, Garrett owns and operates several restaurants include Table Mesa Bistro, Bella’s Table, Mirabella’s Ristorante, and Table of Joy — along with Tavola Trattoria in Bentonville.
