Whitey’s Fish Camp Changes Hands After 63 years

After 63 years Whitey’s Fish Camp, “The Place to Be Since 1963!” is moving forward under new ownership. Located at 2032 County Rd 220, Whitey’s is a longstanding institution in the area—in fact, it’s Clay County’s oldest restaurant—and its new owners, the team at Harry’s of America LLC, say not to worry—all the things you love about Whitey’s are staying as they are.

“A couple of my partners in Harry’s knew the owners from years ago,” Louis Saig, founder of Harry’s, told What Now on Wednesday. “So there won’t be any big change. With the menu, we’ve just reformatted it; it still has the good old fry plates. A few adds, a few changes, but still the same food.”

Jamabalaya, one of the favorites from the Harry’s menu, will be making an appearance, said Saig, along with a She Crab Soup.

“We’re excited about the opportunity. We have such a history in this community, and we’re glad to be a part of it. The family has done a great job all these years, and hopefully we can continue with their legacy.”

Ownership has officially passed over to the Harry’s team. At the end of the month, Whitey’s will close briefly for a renovation that Saig describes as more of a “touch-up.”

The work will include “some very minor touch-ups, a pain refresh, change out of a couple of pieces of equipment,” Saig said in coverage on Jacksonville.com earlier this week.
