Popular chicken wing restaurant, Wingstop, is expanding its footprint in Jacksonville, opening a new location in Royal Lakes at 9934 Old Baymeadows Rd.

The new 1,800-square-foot Wingstop will move into the Deerwood Village Shopping Center later this year. A representative from the company tells What Now Jacksonville this location will be owned and operated by brand partner Michael Moses and is expected to open in September 2023. The restaurant will sit between Great Clips and Möge Tee. Wingstop recently opened a new location on Argyle Forest Blvd last month. This proves the company’s acceleration of development is showing no signs of slowing down.

The company recently opened its 2,000th global restaurant in Pittsburgh after achieving its 19th consecutive year of same-store sales growth, according to a recent press release. Last year, Wingstop’s system-wide sales increased 16.8% to approximately $2.7 billion. The Dallas-based restaurant chain was founded in 1994 and quickly became one of the country’s favorite chicken wing chains. Wingstop hopes to eventually become a Top 10 Global Restaurant Brand, with 98 percent of locations (1,996) being owned by independent franchisees.

“I’m proud of our team and Wingstop brand partners for driving Wingstop’s growth story as we achieve our 2,000th restaurant opening,” Michael Skipworth, Wingstop’s President & CEO, said in a press release. “But our story is far from over – in fact, we’re just getting started. We have a significant opportunity in front of us to scale Wingstop from 2,000 restaurants today to over 7,000 restaurants with an accelerated pace of growth on our mission to Serve the World Flavor.”
