The group that manages Typhoon Texas waterparks, which has two locations—one of which ranking among the 20 most visited waterparks in North America—has recently formed Pyek Group and acquired two Las Vegas waterparks: Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas and Cowabunga Bay.
The Pyek group will manage both parks, in addition to its Texas holdings, and will consolidate both under the Cowabunga brand, with Cowabunga Bay continuing to operate under its current name and with Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas re-opening as Cowabunga Canyon. These changes will be in effect by the time the 2022 season opens.
“It makes sense to create synergy under the same Cowabunga brand since both waterparks will be owned and operated by the same company,” Pyek Group president Evan Barnett said recently in a press release.
Significant investments in renovations and upgrades are expected for both Cowabunga Canyon (née Wet ‘n’ Wild) and Cowabunga Bay, which have been in operation since 2013 and 2014, respectively. Details on those upgrades have yet to be revealed.
Upon opening next year, both parks will offer new season pass options and other perks to be revealed over the course of the next months. Cade Vereen, previously General Manager of Typhoon Texas in north Austin, will serve as general manager for both waterparks. Vereen has more than ten years in the waterpark industry.
Pyek Group is currently hiring for key positions at all four of its waterparks and for corporate positions within the newly formed entity. The group’s principals include Texas business owners Keith Dalton, Terry Hlavinka, and Ray DeLaughter.
