A new tavern featuring cocktails, live music, and soul food is in the works in West Las Vegas. Paperwork has been submitted to the Las Vegas Planning Commission for Talk of the Town Tavern at 845 W Bonanza Road.

A justification letter submitted with the paperwork describes a “comfortable ‘lounge style’ interior, with television monitors throughout, making it a welcoming environment for those looking for a fun, lively and entertaining experience with a sports bar setting.”

Owner Marcus Allen told What Now on Saturday that the new tavern will be a love letter to the 89106 ZIP code Allen has always called home, and to the taverns and lounges that the area used to have.

“You have to realize,” Allen said, “there has not been a tavern license issued there in 30 years. This would be the first one. People might bring up WSO [West Side Oasis], but that place already had their liquor license. They were grandfathered in.”

The décor at Talk of the Town will avoid being strikingly modern or contemporary, keeping a comfortable atmosphere with throwbacks to the past, including pictures of other lounges that once peopled the area.

“We need a place where people can go and enjoy themselves with a nice brunch, a nice cocktail, and listen to some good old school music. I wanted to bring that back like we once had it before.”

Details on the menu are still largely under wraps, Allen says. The Planning Commission letter says the menu will feature “quality, freshly made selections that tout conservative portions and very competitive prices, guaranteed to impress each patron,” with selections that “will consist of homemade chili, chicken, fish, steak, specialty salads, tapas appetizers, and desserts.”

Allen says Talk of the Town Tavern is looking at Spring 2025 opening.
