An Australian property developer, Goodman Group, announced significant news for Los Angeles’ real estate market on March 19. The developer broke ground on a data center near downtown Los Angeles, initiating the Goodman LAX01 Vernon project. This major data center project is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

Goodman LAX01 Vernon: In a Nutshell
Goodman Group began the groundwork for its Los Angeles-based data center in 2023. The company has purchased a 30-acre industrial infill site, formerly home to the Farmer John meat-packing plant. Following the groundbreaking, Goodman Group will develop a three-level data center spanning 5.6 acres.
The Australian developer’s project is located approximately four miles from downtown Los Angeles and One Wilshire, a primary network connection hub servicing the West Coast. After buying the project site in 2023, the real estate developer collaborated with the City of Vernon and its Public Utilities Department to plan the location.
Benefits of Goodman LAX01 Vernon for Los Angeles
Through this project, this project, the Australian developer will provide Vernon with a 49.5-megawatt data center. Upon completion in 2026, Goodman LAX01 Vernon is expected to provide approximately 32MW of IT capacity to Vernon.
The City of Vernon shared on Instagram that the groundbreaking of the 250,000 sq. ft. data center marks a ‘strategic shift towards attracting emerging technologies’ to the area. It added that through its partnership with Goodman Group, the organization was happy to support a growing digital economy.
Vernon: The Beginning of Many Data Centers by Goodman Group
According to Anthony Rozic, CEO of Goodman North America, Goodman LAX01 Vernon is the first of many planned data center projects in North America. Goodman Group is aiming for the expansion of its five-gigawatt global power bank in the continent.
Rozic said that their development plans for Vernon include redundant power availability, strong nodes of fiber networks, technical and construction expertise, proximity to critical infrastructure, and a solid regulatory process.
Greg Goodman, CEO of Goodman Group, stated that the company aims to develop a 500MW project. Expected to launch in June 2026, this ambitious initiative could expand Goodman’s data center presence in North America, Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, and Australia.
The Goodman LAX01 Vernon groundbreaking is expected to strengthen Los Angeles’ tech infrastructure. Future expansions are expected to drive significant growth in the digital economy.
