Two LA County Restaurants Temporarily Closed After Routine Health Inspection

The County of Los Angeles Public Health conducted routine inspections on August 1. The department ordered a Vietnamese and a Thai restaurant to close temporarily after violations were found. Oh My Pho and Sanamluang Thai Cuisine were cited for vermin infestation and more issues.

Loved for its flavorful broth and cozy ambiance, this Vietnamese noodle place serves plentiful dishes. Signature dishes include Bun Cha Ha Noi and Bun Bo Hue. Ocean Blue Soda is another highlight at the L.A.-based establishment.

However, the County of Los Angeles Public Health listed multiple health violations as observed at Oh My Pho on August 1. Based on the nature of violations, the restaurant received a score of 81 and a ‘B’ grade.

The on-site inspector observed food debris on single-use towels in the dispenser at the L.A. facility. Live adult German cockroaches and nymph cockroaches were reported below the 3-compartment sinks and handwash basin.

The restaurant held potentially hazardous foods (PHFs), such as beef, at unsafe temperatures. Additionally, the frozen beef was thawing in the Vietnamese place’s preparation sink without running water.

The health officer noted the presence of grease and food debris inside the fryer cabinets, shelves, and equipment throughout the Vietnamese facility. Additionally, the wall and floor under Oh My Pho’s cookline equipment were covered with grease.

The Thai restaurant was ordered to cease food operations temporarily after a routine inspection on Friday. This was primarily due to vermin infestation, though the food inspector noted multiple other violations as discussed below.

The inspector from the County of Los Angeles Public Health observed impoundment of unsanitary food/equipment. Sanamluang Thai Cuisine’s staff were instructed to wash their hands and wear gloves during food preparation.

Raw and cooked foods were kept together, which could lead to contamination. The inspector next noted dirty food contact surfaces at Sanamluang Thai Cuisine along with violations of safe and adulterated food handling procedures.

The Thai restaurant’s floors, ceilings, and walls were not ideally maintained as required for L.A. food establishments. Sanamluang Thai Cuisine didn’t adhere to proper hot and cold holding temperatures and food storage methods. The food officer reported vermin infestation issues at the Thai restaurant.

Follow-Up Inspection

Oh My Pho may have a reinspection on August 4, as per the health inspection report by the county. There is no confirmed date for a follow-up inspection for Sanamluang Thai Cuisine. Regardless, the latest routine inspection is a reminder for L.A. food establishments regarding compliance with health regulations.
