Canoga Park yesterday welcomed its newly-opened Grocery Outlet, at 8230 Topanga Canyon Boulevard. The grocer replaces a former Rite-Aid, located across from the Vallarta market. Converting the former pharmacy space into the new Grocery Outlet was expected to cost $650,000.

Dale Mascari, the location’s owner, told What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) this week that the area was largely a “food desert” before their opening. “The locals would have to commute two, three miles to go to the next grocery option, and we noticed a lot of commuters here are actually walking by foot,” Mascari said. “This is a more convenient option for them, especially with our low prices and name-brand items.”

Nearby, a Grocery Outlet opened at 19718 Sherman Way in Winnetka on July 2 and a third Grocery Outlet is currently under construction at the remodeled shopping center at Mason Avenue and Lassen Street in Chatsworth. Mascari told WNLA that the opening date projected for the Chatsworth location is May 2021.

Grocery Outlet is a discount supermarket that supplies discounted and overstocked products with locations in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
