The Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council’s land use committee Thursday evening will discuss and possibly vote on plans by Urban Stearns for an eight-story, 228-unit mixed-use hotel development in Woodland Hills, the neighborhood group’s meeting agenda this week shows.
A Culver City-based investment and development company, Urban Stearns first filed plans for the development earlier this year. The mixed-use project would replace an approximately 23,000-square-foot industrial building at 6036 Variel Ave. that has been occupied by Iron Battalion CrossFit and Takano Weightlifting.
On levels three through eight, the Togawa Smith Martin-designed building would hold 62 studio apartments, 56 one-bedrooms, and 110 two-bedrooms, while floors two and three would hold as many as 47 hotel rooms, according to planning documents.. The project would also include a subterranean level of parking and 260 automobile stalls, plans show.
At the time it submitted application documents for 6036 Variel, Urban Stearns was in escrow to acquire the project site from Aronoff Brothers LP, planning filings show. A deal for the property has yet to be reflected in county property records.
The Woodland Hills project would also provide about 17,000 square feet of amenity space including an approximately 7,500-square-foot, publicly accessible plaza, plans show.
