The Grand LA, the DTLA Frank Gehry-designed mixed-use project from the Related Cos., this week launched an immersive virtual reality experience that takes visitors through the under-construction project, providing a glimpse of what it would be like to stand among the new buildings when it debuts in early-2022. “Explore The Grand in virtual reality,” a landing page for the new VR feature states. “Navigate the different views via the nodes or map on the lower-left corner.”

The Grand LA broke ground in 2019 and in September hit its halfway point of construction, according to a press release at the time of the milestone. It will offer two main towers, both of which are expected to top off next year. The first, standing 39-stories tall, will offer 436 residential units — 20 percent of which will be affordable. The second, at 20-stories tall, will be anchored by a 309-room Equinox Hotel. Retail, restaurant, and a movie theater complex round out the project’s uses.

The Grand LA sits across Grand Avenue from the Walt Disney Concert Hall which was also designed by Frank Gehry. It opened in 2003. “Gehry’s vision for The Grand was to create a centerpiece for Grand Avenue that promotes community gatherings and cultural performances in an open space, in addition to providing shopping, dining and residential experiences,” Related Cos. writes of the project on its website.
