Newport Beach is getting a new pizza joint called 22nd Street Pizza, a quick-service pizza place within 200 yards of the beachfront — serving beer and wine. The 2200 W Oceanfront STE B space is currently under construction on the Balboa Peninsula and is looking at an opening of an estimated three months from now.

The owner, Laura Marroquin, previously owned the property alongside their brothers while it was an empty space. However the family, veterans in the restaurant scene, decidedly figured Newport Beach was shy of a good pizza joint and saw the opportunity to start up 22nd Street Pizza.

“I think the area really needs a new pizza location,” Marroquin told What Now Los Angeles. “So I’m really excited to bring that to the Balboa Peninsula.”  Together, they also own Pipeline, a hamburger and ice cream joint sitting nearby at 2010 W Oceanfront. Marroquin plans on getting one pizzeria up and running and going from there.

22nd Street Pizza first made the announcement back in August on its Facebook page, originally for a January 2021 date. The page also provided plenty of renderings of the space following its full build-out.
