Michelin Star Chef Back Seung Ook, known as Akira Back, on February 12, 2020, will open ABSteak in The Beverly Center, reps told What Now Los Angeles Monday.
ABSteak was originally supposed to open in November 2019, at 8500 Beverly Blvd adjacent Yardbird, but now is pushing to debut ahead of Valentine’s Day.
It’s unclear what caused the delay, but when ABSteak finally opens next month, expect part Korean barbecue, part classic American steakhouse.
Highlights of the space include a dry-aging room and smokeless grills at every table.
“Influenced by his longtime career as a professional snowboarder, Chef Back adds a sense of adventure and whim to his culinary creations,” according to a press release late-2019.
“Encompassing the same euphoria from the board to the kitchen, every dish is engrossing and embracing. His menus are a melting pot of culture, which presents each guest with his stories and expressions that can be enjoyed and appreciated on a personal level. His passion is to provide a food and beverage experience that is unique and leaves people emotionally connected with aspects of his food, personality, and life.”
When ABSteak opens, it will have two less food and beverage neighbors.
MINA Group at the end of 2019 shuttered both of its Beverly Center businesses, Osteria Cal Mare and LAMILL Coffee.
The ABSteak brand first launched with a location in Jakarta in April 2017, and additional locations opening this year are planned in Boston, Dallas, and San Francisco.
