Alfred Coffee is expanding to Venice later this year.

The coffee shop has secured a lease to replace the short-lived Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream, at 1653B Abbot Kinney Blvd.

San Francisco-based Humphry Slocombe debuted the Los Angeles storefront in mid-2018 a stone’s throw from Salt & Straw and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, and later closed in 2019.

Alfred’s forthcoming, 1,119-square-foot space, is sandwiched between Pressed Juicery and Lemonade.

When reached for comment by What Now Los Angeles Tuesday regarding the opening timeline, a rep for the growing coffee and tea chain played coy about the plans saying, “we have no clue what you’re talking about” alongside a smiley-face emoji and to “stay tuned!”

Founded in January 2013 with a coffee shop on Melrose Place, Alfred now operates 10 locations in Los Angeles (including its tea shops), one location in Austin, Texas, and four in Japan, according to the company’s website.

“With the opening of every new Alfred, whether in Los Angeles or Austin or Tokyo, our mission is one and the same: for every person to walk out of our cafes as thrilled with their experience as they are with their drink.”

It’s unclear when the new Alfred will open.
