Amirah Kassem’s Flour Shop — once located at 9495 S Santa Monica Boulevard — is now a ghost of its formerly vibrant self. Fortunately, like all good spirits, Flour Shop will soon reappear; but for now, the new location is unclear. Per signage outside of the vacant dessert destination, Kassem’s move aims to “better serve the entire LA area.” This could mean multiple outlets or perhaps a space at one of Los Angeles’ massive malls. We’ll soon find out.

Kassem grew up baking and sculpting with her mother in Mexico, where she discovered an appreciation for fine ingredients and mastered the art of multi-sensory experiences, explains the company’s website.

With a sister store located in New York, Kassem’s food-based installations have been exhibited everywhere from private settings at the Whitney Museum to 64-foot edible hallways at the Brooklyn Museum.

Her offerings include towering cakes that can be customized, oversized, and even explosive. With crazy color palettes and awe-inspiring presentations, no matter where Kassem lands in LA, her creations are ever-poised to meet the eclectic needs of this equally eccentric city.
