The restaurant will move into the former home of Kettle Black

Spanish restaurant Bar Moruno is opening once again, this time in Silver Lake, located at 3705 Sunset Blvd.

The new restaurant will move into the former home of Kettle Black in Spring 2022, with April as the target month. Co-owners Chris Feldmeier and David Rosoff first opened five years ago in Downtown’s Grand Central Market before opening another location in the Original Farmers Market. Now, the duo of owners, along with chef Ricardo Zarate, gets ready to give it another shot with new small lunch and sundry takeaway with sandwiches, wine to go, and other grab-and-go items.

Feldmeier and Rosoff have worked together for years in some well-known restaurants in Los Angeles, such as Campanile and Mozza. Since closing both Bar Moruno locations, the pair split to pursue their own projects. Feldmeier would replace Michael Fiorelli as head chef at Manhattan Beach’s Love & Straw. On the other hand, Rosoff partnered with Matt Molina to open Hippo in Highland Park.

Despite the new daytime menu items, the restaurant will continue to serve its slow-roasted meats, tapas, and tinned fish paired with Spanish wines. Other highlights from their menu include roasted butternut squash with dukkah, rotisserie chicken, sandwiches, bowls, and more. The new Bar Moruno will likely use Kettle Black’s old wood-fired oven.

The Spanish-influenced menu will largely come from a wood-burning oven and wood-burning rotisserie,” Rosoff tells What Now Los Angeles in an email. “There will be a robust selection of tinned fish (“conservas”) from Spain and Portugal and a hint of N. African and Middle Eastern flavors in the food. The wine list will feature the best of the Iberian Peninsula and other important European regions as well as a comprehensive selection of Sherry and vermouth. The bar program will center around a huge selection of gin with a full complement of house Martini and Gin Tonic recipes”
