The highly creative designer and restaurateur Barton G Weiss’s eponymous restaurant, Barton G, is currently undergoing some pretty big changes. Barton G is located at 861 N La Cienega Blvd, between Melrose and Santa Monica — a popular spot for fine dining.
Barton G started out as a very well known restaurant in Miami, where people would fly in just to celebrate whatever occasion there. This restaurant was such a success, they opened up a new location in L.A., which has been temporarily shut down due to COVID-19. However, Barton G has found the pandemic as an opportunity to expand and build upon its L.A. location.
Oliver Omidvar, the building owner who is playing an integral and hands-on role in Barton G’s expansion, told What Now Los Angeles about some of Barton G’s whimsical dishes. For example, if you order a steak, there might be a sign behind your steak that states, “don’t eat steak, eat pork.” Some guests have even been surprised to find their food served in a small pirate boat. The food is also quite delicious and stands on its own, without all the quirkiness.
Omidvar said, as far as the creative direction is concerned, they haven’t settled on anything yet. This typically fun fine-dining experience may be transitioning into something slightly more casual. But the existing location is apparently gorgeous and what they’re looking to do is somewhat of a recreation, utilizing the space next door to expand Barton G.
As of right now, any plans on future expansions or openings are a little ambiguous. They just need to get through COVID to start planning any further openings, if any. “Most restaurants aren’t thinking of expanding right now, but trying to get on their feet,” he said. “Everybody is hurting everywhere right now.”
The reopening of Barton G’s L.A. location shouldn’t be too far off, but it takes a little bit of time to go through the permit process with the City, Omidvar told WNLA. After that, they have to see where they are at with COVID and plan accordingly.
