Belle’s Bagels Closes Hi Hat Outpost, Is Replacing Cote Est Across The Street

Highland Park breakfast spot's move into former French bistro space is likely temporary.

Highland Park’s Belle’s Bagels has closed its Hi Hat music venue window for good, Eater LA on Monday first reported. A post to the Belle’s Bagels Instagram late-Sunday confirms the news. The popular breakfast spot isn’t going away for good, however. Instead, it is moving across the street “for now,” taking the place of the former Cote Est.

“Today marks the end of an era,” according to the Instagram post. “Monday will be our last day of service out of the Hi Hat. Before you get too sad I’d like to make it clear that we will be moving across the street, at least for the time being…”

The Cote Est space, at 5022 York Blvd., has been empty since the French bistro closed its doors in late-2019 after two years.

“We had hoped that with all the uncertainty around music venues and bars that we could have remained at the Hi Hat at least for a little while longer but unfortunately that would not have been possible without the building owner effectively tripling our rent as well as imposing a myriad of contingencies that for us were just too risky for an uncertain time…,” according to the social media post. “Don’t get me wrong, this is sad. We’re gonna miss the window so damn much. But during a time when it feels like the world is crumbling around us we can only feel uplifted by the supportive people who frequent…”
