In a heartfelt Instagram post, the shop at 5537 N Figueroa St. announced it will be closing soon. Owner Mo Maravilla thanked the Highland Park community for their support through challenges, including the pandemic, strikes, fires, and ICE raids since 2016. However, she is set to cease operations at Kindness & Mischief Coffee to focus on her own well-being.
Maravilla shared that while the cafe had been thriving, she had been neglecting her own well-being for some time. After facing burnout, Maravilla says she’s ready to focus on her health and happiness.
“As much as I love the coffee world, running the daily operations of a cafe is not what I want to do forever. In an honest effort to love myself a little better, I’m listening to that voice inside and looking towards my next chapter,” the post read.
Maravilla admitted the closure is bittersweet, but she believes “it’s the right move.” She then thanked the team members for making the L.A. cafe a success.

Last Day Celebrations Are Slated for November 1
As Kindness & Mischief Coffee serves its final drinks on November 1, the day will double as a ‘Celebration of Life,’ honoring its journey and community. Maravilla stated that since the farewell falls on Dia de los Muertos, locals are invited to stop by for coffee, conversation, and community celebrations.
Kindness & Mischief Coffee will be open regular hours in the upcoming weekend and the week leading up to November 1. The Highland Park community is invited to visit the coffee shop on Thursday and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Owner Mo Maravilla Shares Future Plans
Maravilla shared that while she’s closing the L.A. shop, her work in coffee is far from over. She will continue to roast coffee beans and offer classes & workshops. She also plans to launch a new project called ‘Studio Tigre.’
Since opening in 2016, Kindness & Mischief Coffee has sourced beans from Maravilla’s hometown in the Philippines. From representing L.A. at World of Coffee Copenhagen to walking the fields with farmers at origin, the shop embraced every part of the coffee journey.
Even as Kindness & Mischief prepares to close, its legacy will live on in Maravilla’s future projects.
