A local favorite bar, Brennan’s Pub, has shared an announcement of its permanent closure on social media. The restaurant will host its final service from 4 p.m. on December 26 through noon on December 27. The pub will also host its final Turtle Race on Saturday, December 27, at 9 p.m.

Marina del Rey Loses a Local Favorite as Brennan’s Pub Closes

Located in the heart of Lincoln Blvd, Brennan’s Pub was founded in 1972 and is well-known for its beer, food, and turtle races.

The turtle race tradition began in 1975 and was introduced by Ab Lawrence. He jokingly called it “the world’s stupidest sport,” but the community quickly embraced it, and it became a popular attraction.

Every Thursday at 9 p.m., the turtles are brought out from their sanctuary for the races. Three turtles are placed in the center of a ring, and the first one to crawl out of the circle wins.

Recommended dishes from the pub include BBQ Burger, Steak and fries, and White Mushroom Pizza.

Through an Instagram post, the pub shared the heartbreaking news of its closure. “We have some unfortunate news. After so many shared moments, countless pints poured, and memories made both big and small, Brennan’s Pub will be closing the doors after this Saturday night,” wrote the restaurant.

“Thank you for supporting us, showing up, and making this place feel alive,” added the team.

Community Responses on Social Media

The news of Brennan’s Pub’s closure after decades of service has saddened the community. Several fans and loyal supporters shared heartfelt messages on social media.

One of the fans wrote, “Thank you for all the good times I remember and especially to those I don’t.”

Another one shared a cherished memory, “I had my first legal drink at your bar and have made so many memories there over the past 7 years, thank you for everything! It really is heartbreaking news.”

In the post, the restaurant mentioned, “We will be open Friday at 4 pm and Saturday at 12 pm. SATURDAY, we will have a final Turtle Race at 9 pm!”

With the closure of Brennan’s Pub, the local community is losing another decades-old gem.
