On August 27, Xelas beer bar and restaurant will close its doors following challenges with the space’s landlord. The 1846 1st Street business opened in 2018 and quickly became a Boyle Heights favorite amongst locals and visitors alike. Fortunately, founders Corissa Hernandez and Gabriel Paredes have shared with Eater LA that there are plans to reopen in the future.

The pair are responsible for concepts all around Los Angeles, including Nativo — a Mexican-Italian eatery, Craft Beer Cellar in Eagle Rock which has since closed, and the Empire Tavern, which is also defunct.

There’s currently no word regarding when or where exactly the husband and wife team will reopen Xelas, or if the concept itself will remain the same, but hopes are high via the Xelas Instagram.

One commenter writes, “What a light y’all have been to our beautiful city. Thank you for opening your doors and giving so many of us a space to dance, celebrate, and share joy. Wherever you go next, I know so many of us will follow. We love you!”
