Bread Bike, known for delivering bread, scones and other baked goodies by bike around San Luis Obispo, plans to open its first storefront location this fall at 2060 Parker Street.
“Opening up a storefront was always the dream,” founder Sam DeNicola said. DeNicola began baking and delivering homemade sourdough loaves by bike in 2019. Since then, the business has grown to five team members.
“I can imagine doubling that number once we get up and running,” he said.
Bread Bike currently gets its bakes to customers in a couple different ways, including a subscription service through which customers add money to an account then sign up for deliveries or pick-up at one of the bakery’s pick-up sites. It also sells its wares at local grocery stores and farmers markets.
While DeNicola has loved bringing his bread to the San Luis Obispo community, he’s looking forward to finally bring the community to his bread — especially for events like pizza night.
“We always have to go to people right now. We’ve been baking out of homes and other people’s bakeries,” he said. “Now we get to bring other people to us.”
Still, when it comes to its famous two-wheeled couriers, Bread Bike has no plans to hang up its wheels.
“We’ll always will be delivering,” he said. “Always.”
