Wholesale coffee roasters Canyon Coffee is opening its first brick-and-mortar in Echo Park, located at 1559 Echo Park Ave.

The new coffee house will move into Chicken Corner at the corner of Echo Park Ave., and Delta St. Co-owners Casey Wojtalewicz and Ally Walsh hope to open the new storefront in a few months, according to The Eastsider. The Canyon Coffee will become the third cafe in a row at this location since 2004, following Counterpart Vegan and Chango Coffee House. The mural of chickens that gave the building its nickname was removed when Chango moved in.

The couple started Canyon Coffee in their Santa Monica apartment in 2016. The two began by selling their coffee online from Oxnard and then at pop-up events two to three times a month. Now living in Echo Park, they are roasting in Chinatown with an office nearby in Boyle Heights. The company has a growing list of stockists, including boutique shops, coffee shops, cafes, offices, catering companies, and hotels. Some of their coffee is even served in ice cream.

“I know and respect the history of coffee on that corner spot!” Wojtalewicz told The Eastsider. “We’ve been a part of the neighborhood for a while, and it’s out of a love for the community and a want to create something in the space that is from and of the neighborhood that we decided to really go for the lease.”
