Born in 2017 out of Ari Skye’s home kitchen, Courage Bagels nearly three years later will materialize in the form of a long-awaited brick-and-mortar in Virgil Village. Skye, who over the years slung her Montreal-style bagels to residents of Silver Lake and Echo Park and in between by way of a bike, will debut the storefront this weekend, according to an announcement on Instagram Thursday.
Starting out “softly” and “slowly,” Courage Bagels will open its doors for the first time, at 777 N. Virgil Avenue, at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 25. At first, Courage Bagels’ is only open for weekends and with service out of the bakery’s takeout window serving bagels to-go.
“Can’t believe these words are about to leave my mouth (fingers?) … this weekend we will be opening softly!,” Skye wrote in the social media announcement. Angelenos are asked to kindly patronize the new shop and “help us work out the kinks.” Courage Bagels’ 820-square-foot space was most recently occupied by Super Pan Bakery. Ken’s Ramen last month debuted in the same strip. Virgil Village also recently gained a new natural wine shop and European cafe — Voodoo Vin — a stone’s throw away.
