Crowns and Hops Brewing Co. is a Black-owned business run by Teo Hunter and Beny Ashburn, whose social media accounts talk about a possible Inglewood opening in the future. What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) reached out to Hunter, who confirmed the new location will be opening up in Inglewood, but they have not locked down an address yet. The liquor license filed by the Crowns and Hops Brewing Co. owners lists the address as 1840 W 208th St in Torrance, where The Dudes’ Brewing Company still stands.

Hunter and Ashburn met on Tinder about seven years ago, going on several dates to taprooms. This is when they noticed a lack of representation, which inspired them to start their own operation. That’s the goal of Crowns and Hops Brewing Co., according to an interview with the pair on Market Place — to inspire more minority business owners and brewers to do the same. It seems their plan was to open up in Inglewood, but no address has been stated.

Crowns and Hops Brewing Co.’s Instagram page currently has a countdown for when they announce the winner for a grant they’re advertising. “Tag, call, email, text, messenger pigeon all Black-Owned Craft beer business that you feel could benefit from this fund,” the initial post reads. A major slogan to appear on Crowns and Hops Brewing Co.’s merch is “Black People Love Beer,” which is labeled on several of its products — BPLB Double Dry-Hopped IPA and the BPLB Hazy IPA. The plan is for Crowns and Hops Brewing Co.’s Inglewood location to open up sometime in 2021.
