A new Italian restaurant called Due Fiorio, which translates to “Two Flowers,” is preparing to open in Long Beach at 2708 East 4th St.
This is the latest from Daniel Flores and Gianna Johns, the owners of Baby Gee, according to a recent liquor license application first reported by LongBeachize. Combining Flores’ experience at Bestia and Gianna’s Italian heritage, the couples will open this new traditional Italian restaurant in the former home of Shade Grove Foods, which closed at the beginning of the year. It’s unclear when Due Fiori is expected to open, but the space has recently been painted green.
This will be Daniel and Gianna’s second restaurant together. They opened Baby Gee in the former home of the Red Room on Fourth Street in North Alamitos Beach. The two gave new life to the space after the iconic glowing landmark sat there for over two decades. The couple has over four decades of experience in the food service industry. Before opening Baby Gee, Gianna worked as head bartender at the NoMad Hotel in Los Angeles, while Flores worked in every bar-related position other than bartender.
Together, they will use their combined experiences to open Due Fiorio, likely by the end of the year, considering the two have been secretly working on this project for a few months now. When it opens, customers can expect traditional Italian pasta dishes, plenty of beer and wine, and a welcoming atmosphere that will surely be a hit in the neighborhood. Long Beach residents will have high expectations if it’s anything like their first concept.
