This Wednesday, the Planning Commission will discuss a parcel of land just north of the Long Beach Towne Center’s Walmart for a future El Pollo Loco and Raising Cane’s, according to city documents reviewed by the Long Beach Post

“The two projects will need the Planning Commission to sign off on a conditional use permit for their drive-thrus as well as approval to divide the parcel into two lots,” The Post further explains.

Both the El Pollo Loco and Raising Cane’s would use a drive-thru layout that allows two lanes of cars to enter for a portion of, or in the case of Raising Cane’s, the entirety of the drive-thru. The Raising Cane’s drive-thru proposal describes dual-pay and pick-up lanes through the use of a kiosk and could allow up to 20 vehicles to be in line without backing up into the parking lot.

The Long Beach Towne Center is a bustling location — the largest shopping center in the city — anchored by the aforementioned Walmart on one side and a Sam’s Club on the other.

At the nucleus lives an Edwards movie theatre, a Dave n’ Buster’s, and a T.G.I Friday’s, and scattered throughout the retail and entertainment mecca are other heavy hitters like Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and Original Roadhouse Grill.

If approved for the Towne Center, El Pollo Loco will join Carl’s Jr., Del Taco, Chick-fil-A, and In-N-Out.

Regarding whether or not the potentially incoming El Pollo Loco will be company or franchise-owned, a representative tells WNLA, “At this current time, El Pollo Loco does not have a comment regarding your inquiry about the Long Beach Towne Center.”
