Bringing the flavors of Tijuana, a new restaurant, called Tacos El Viejon, will take the place of El Serrano Mexican Grill, at 3818 E Cesar E Chavez Ave. El Serrano closed its doors in April of this year after four years of business. In a Facebook post, the restaurant stated that the loss of foot traffic due to the pandemic resulted in its closure.

Now comes Tacos El Viejon to will fill the space from a two-year lease that was signed with a start date in August 2020. The 680-square-foot space offers three reserved parking spaces.

Alex Velazquez, the restaurant’s co-owner, told What Now Los Angeles that the opening is expected to occur this year, but there is no specific date yet due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The menu entails hand-made tortillas, traditional salsas, tacos, Menudo soup, gorditas, quesadillas, burritos, and more Mexican flavors. “We hope to bring authentic Hispanic and Latin flavors to East LA,” Velazquez said.

Tacos El Viejon currently operates two locations, in East LA at 3456 E Cesar Chavez Avenue and in Echo Park, at 1229 W Sunset Boulevard.
