After years of pop-ups at various markets, the owners of Evil Cooks are getting ready to open their first brick-and-mortar store in El Sereno at 3333 N. Eastern Avenue.

Owners Alex and Elvia Garcia are preparing to open their permanent restaurant, Evil Cooks Corazón Abierto, in the former Antojito Chapines Chicken N Churros space on November 12, first reported by Eater Los Angeles. Evil Cook ended its four-year-old pop-up from their El Sereno home earlier this month, and they will continue to serve their loyal fanbase at Smorgasburg on Sundays. This is a massive accomplishment for the metal taco spot, which was nominated for a James Beard award this year.

When Evil Cooks Corazón Abierto opens next month, customers can expect a similar menu to what has been offered in the past, featuring tacos, burritos, tortas, mulitas, evil tots, and a handful of desserts called “Devil’s Sweet Tooth.” The owners tell What Now Los Angeles they plan to add a few new menu items to this restaurant. This is an exciting development for El Sereno, considering Evil Cooks is regarded as one of the best places to get a taco in Los Angeles.

While this is a massive accomplishment for the company, it’s more so for the owners. Alex Garcia started from the bottom of the restaurant industry’s totem pole after immigrating to the United States, eventually acquiring over 20 years of experience and versatility in cooking techniques from different cuisines like Italian, French, Japanese, Vietnamese, German, Greek, Contemporary American, Mexican, and Baking. Elvia Garcia, on the other hand, was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Le Cordón Bleu Cooking School. Elvia has accumulated over 17 years of experience, and her cooking background includes some extensive cuisines like Italian, French, Contemporary American, Mexican, and Baking.

“We have been in the business over a decade,” according to the company’s website. “We recently decided to focus on food production on a smaller scale to give more attention to our customers. Our concept is a little different than most, which makes us unique. We cater to business companies and pop up all over LA and Orange County. We offer street food to fine dining, but our specialty is street gourmet tacos such as Black Al Pastor and much more. Let’s not forget Dessert Tacos such as our famous Flan Taco, Chocoflan taco, Arroz con leche taco, Camote con leche taco, and much more. We would love to serve you and kill your appetite.”
