Fonuts, a 100% gluten-free bakery, is bringing its fresh baked goods to 709 Montana Ave, right next to the new Oakberry.
Fonuts’ two open stores on West 3rd and in Studio City mainly serve gluten-free doughnuts (as well as vegan and seasonal offerings), but the new shop will take a slightly different approach.
“In addition to our baked doughnuts, this shop will focus on gluten-free breads and cakes. We’re going to have an array of different breads including sourdough, olive bread, dark loaves like buckwheat, and bagels on the weekends. We’ll also have little six-inch cakes on hand daily, like olive oil cakes and chocolate cakes, as well as specialty items like Nancy’s Grandma’s Crostata,” said co-owner Nancy Truman.
The new storefront, which is only about 500 square-feet, and will also sell Fonuts’ popular baker kits (which come with everything you need to make “fonuts” at home, including a “fonut” pan, batter mix, glaze mix, and a “fonut” box), jars of “fotella” (Truman’s gluten-free, vegan spin on Nutella, made without palm oil), and merch like sweatshirts, T-shirts that say ‘baked,’ and greeting cards.
“We’re really excited to be in Santa Monica. We’ve had so much interest from the westside and we know there’s a huge need for good gluten-free bread,” said Truman.
The Montana Ave. outpost is slated to open this spring. Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., “Unless we sell out early.”
