A brand new restaurant called Hanky’s Hot Chicken is opening within Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance, located at 2595 Airport Dr.

Owner John Safar tells What Now Los Angeles he plans to replace SHIOK! Asian Street Food in mid-to-late-February 2022. The new restaurant, Safar’s first of two this year, will focus on Nashville-style hot chicken as sandwiches, tenders, and loaded fries. Safar says customers can expect sides such as coleslaw, mac and cheese, and texas toast. Not-so-common menu items include grilled cheese sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and milkshakes. Hanky’s Hot Chicken will have a beautifully lit outdoor seating area for customers.

Safar’s other upcoming restaurant, The Craftsman, located in Redondo Beach, is expected to open sometime this summer and will feature specialty artesian sandwiches, burgers, flatbreads, salads, and more. The businessman will have a busy year before him, on top of other restaurants already in operation. Safar will try his luck first by getting into the hot chicken industry in Torrance.

The Rolling Hills Plaza will be perfect for the brand new restaurant. On top of the excessive foot traffic, the shopping center doesn’t have many independent chicken shops nearby. The area is littered with chicken chain restaurants such as KFC, El Polo Loco, and Raising Canes. Safar will use his experience and flavors to win over the local chicken-loving crowds.
