Hoka Hoka Sushi owners Young Cho, Ed Kim, and Lisa Cho will open Hoka Hoka Express at 3948 Sepulveda Boulevard — formerly home to Sushimon — according to a recently-filed ABC application and confirmed by Cho’s wife, Lisa. It is not yet clear when the incoming concept will debut.

Hoka Hoka Sushi resides in Redondo Beach and boasts a cool, casual atmosphere with beaming blue bar lights and oversized intimate booths for a late-night city feel. The menu, though typical, is a well-considered collection of fresh specialty rolls, appetizers, bowls, plates, salads, sashimi, desserts, and drinks.

Guests can choose from basic creations like the lauded Philly Roll or go for something more eccentric like Hoka Hoka’s Firecracker Roll: spicy scallops, cucumber, and avocado topped with spicy tuna. The eatery also offers happy hour all day, even for to-go orders.
