You get a breakfast taco, you get a breakfast, we all get a breakfast taco thanks to Texas-native Briana Valdez who will be opening her fifth location of Homestate in Sherman Oaks. The Tex-Mex restaurant is settling into its new 3,159 square foot space in the Valley, where it will be able to seat 22 indoors and 68 outside on its spacious outdoor patio.
HomeState’s website describes itself as “a Texas Kitchen in Southern California sharing breakfast tacos, queso, brisket, house-made flour tortillas and genuine hospitality.” This Tex-Mex restaurant has earned name and fame in the land of tacos: In 2020, HomeState was named Best Tortilla in Southern California in KCRW & Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament. If it’s good enough for taco-expert Gustavo Arellano, then you best double your order.
HomeState doesn’t just astonish your taste buds with its perfect buttery flour tortillas. We haven’t even gotten to what’s wrapped inside the award-winning tortilla.
HomeState is a treasure trove of breakfast tacos. From the Guadalupe (organic eggs, chorizo, cheddar) to the Blanco (organic egg whites, shiitake mushrooms, monterey jack), HomeState has the perfect breakfast taco for everyone.
For the musically inclined taco lovers, HomeState offers band tacos, which have been created by some of your favorite musicians from Local Natives and Questlove to Fred Armisen. The current band taco was brought you by The Tijuana Panthers and features shredded brisket, queso, potatoes, and pico de gallo.
HomeState is currently serving their memorable tacos in Hollywood, Highland Park, and West Adams. With the coming new location, the Valley joins Pasadena in the patient but impatient wait for HomeState to open its doors.
