The iconic Jewish deli Nate’n Al’s is undergoing a few changes, specifically another relaunch and new co-ownership.
The 77-year-old restaurant has experienced many ups and downs in recent history, including a potential closure, COVID outbreaks, and more. At one point, owners Shelli and Irving Azoff closed the restaurant before suddenly reopening again during the pandemic. Now, hospitality group H.Wood Group, owned by John Terzian and Brian Toll, is stepping in to help relaunch as part of a joint agreement in Spring 2022. This is great news for longtime customers who have visited 414 N. Beverly Drive since 1945.
H.Wood Group is responsible for several local businesses such as Bootsy Bellows LA & Aspen, Delilah, The Nice Guy, The Peppermint Club, Poppy, Petite Taqueria, 40 Love, Slab, Shorebar LA & Cabo, Harriet’s Rooftop, and Mason. The new partnership will result in Terzian and Toll overseeing the day-to-day operations of Nate’n Al’s, with the Azoffs remaining in an advisory and financial role.
As for potential changes, the new owners say they plan to keep much of the restaurant’s menu the same as it was with favorites such as corned beef, stuffed cabbage, and breakfasts. Per a joint email sent to Eater, Terzian/Toll and the Azoffs say that “they plan to keep much of the look, feel, and menu of Nate’n Al’s the same as it has been for decades.” The owners also expect to update the brand, add a new logo, and spruce up the restaurant, although some have already begun. Finally, H.Group says they also plan to expand the brand further down the road.
