Jonah’s Kitchen + Bar is opening soon in Santa Monica, at 2518 Wilshire Blvd. The promise of its arrival comes in the form of a developing webpage — not to mention a large sign hanging over its new home that reads “Jonah’s Kitchen + Bar.”  Although, the owners are planning on reevaluating this timeline in the next few months, depending on how COVID is impacting the food industry.

What Now Los Angeles was able to get some details from Hiro Nishida, who is working as a partner with Jonah Johnson, a celebrated private chef for many affluent customers and celebrities. This restaurant is a collaboration with Japan-based artist management and entertainment company LDH Kitchen/LDH. This is his first restaurant and they’re both excited to be sharing years of recipes.

Chef Jonah is inspired by Mexican dishes, but also Latin soul food, which will be the biggest emphasis on the menu. You can customize your own dish with a variety of sauces and spices that really deliver the enjoyment of the experience.  “We believe the people in Santa Monica are very diversified so we wanted to match the community,” Nishida said.

Hiro operates from Manhattan, while Johnson and the team are locals. The idea is to be as local and true to Santa Monica as possible. According to Hiro, Santa Monica is a very exciting residential City. It’s far enough from the beach that is more “local” based, away from the tourists.

Hiro emphasized the level of attention they are paying to the hospitality and atmosphere at Jonah’s Kitchen + Bar. Going over and above on cleanliness isn’t just going to be a COVID precaution but is part of the service. On top of that, the intimate space will offer a Mexican beach-inspired atmosphere, complete with a cafe and lounge area in the back fully decorated as such.

Jonah’s Kitchen + Bar wants to deliver affordable prices and great experiences, so keep an eye for its opening — hopefully in winter 2020. The space sits right across the street from Douglas Park and a 10-minute drive to Santa Monica State Beach.
