Japanese food juggernaut Kai Ramen has two new locations on the way—North Hollywood, which opens in just a few days, and Koreatown due in early July.

Kai ramen has exploded on the scene since opening their first location in the Beverly Center just four years ago. With the two new additions, the chain will now have nine restaurants in the LA area.

Chef-Owner Tomo Nishimura, took a few minutes away fromo managing his growing restaurant empire to tell me what customers can look forward to the new locations.

For first timers, he suggests the volcano ramen, which he says is the house specialty. The Umami enriched chicken broth his bright red, spicy, and, in a non-traditional twist, the bowl gets topped with crispy popcorn chicken. For Tonkatsu fans, Chef Tomo says the Pork Bomb is can’t miss. With ground and shredded pork and a rich broth infused with spicy seasoning, I think he’s definitely on to something.

A bonus scoop for Kai fans: Keep your eyes peeled on Playa Vista. Chef says there maybe be big news there soon….
