Upscale Asian fusion restaurant Kaviar Sushi Bar is expanding to a second location in Downtown Los Angeles, located at 449 South Hewitt St.

The new Kaviar Sushi Bar has officially opened, according to ownership. The new restaurant and nightclub were supposed to move into The LA Grand Hotel, but plans have been changed, and it has opened in the former home of Simone. Owner Tigran Oganessian opened the original restaurant in Pasadena last year with partner/ executive chef John Y. The duo hopes to become competitors with other high-end sushi restaurants in the area, such as Nobu Sushi.

The Vegas-like nightclub and bar is expected to finish construction around the same time as Kaviar Sushi’s opening, with a grand opening target date of September 2023. Since opening its first location, the restaurant has accumulated a strong following, gaining 45,000 guests per year. When the new restaurant opens, customers can expect a variety of high-end sushi dishes that range from $11 to $52. The restaurant also serves beer, wine, and an extensive sake list with bottles priced up to $220.

Chef John is a 20-year veteran of the food and beverage industry. He began his career in 2001 by serving alongside notable chefs across the country. He is also the owner and operator of La Zona Sushi in Huntington Park and Sushi Ahn in Eagle Rock. After years of sharpening his craft, John adds to his impressive resume with his first expansion.

CORRECTION: The previous article misstated the second location would open at 333 Figueroa Street but a lease was never signed.
